Equipment: Nothing but my notebook which is one of the most important parts of birding. To go out without it (which I only ever did once) is like going out without your pants on. I've never understood why I responded to the 'Cameras and Equipment' question in this way because in reality I own a Leica Telescope with eyepieces, Zeiss Binoculars, and a Manfrotto Tripod all of which cost a positive fortune.

Default Redshank

Here's another one to look out for Beryl on your many travels.

Next time you see Redshank in winter make sure none of them is one of these. This is the Spotted Redshank a unique bird which transforms from what you see in this image to a bird with a summer/breeding plumage as 'black as coal'.

I'm not supposing you don't already know this Beryl.

Not the best photograph in the world being very heavily cropped.

Pete.
