i know what you mean about the goosanders keeping their distance. for the past few years, we have had goosanders on the local park duck pond. there have been 3 males and 3 females this winter. they always swim to the furthest part of the pond, away from people and are very skittish if you approach too closely. these pics of a female were taken in 2005. they are very poor quality, taken across the pond, and in very poor light. at the time i tried to enhance the pics but all i got were these grainy images.
p.s. have you noticed that there are a few bird species, where the females have the gingery brown head plumage? the goosander, blackcap and smew are three that come to mind. |
