    Default First post and Hoopoe

    Hello all,
Thought I'd share this find as my first post on this forum and site.
Acting on a tip off from a collegue, I spent my lunch hour on the Surrey/Hants border watching this very wary Hoopoe, even with a 600mm lens, these images are a crop hence the poor quality, chuffed with the spot though

Well done Mike and an excellent first post. I'm envious.

I'll move this to the Photo section if you don't mind, as that's where people will look for images.

Shame I'm busy over the next couple of days, I'd have loved to go and have a look.

The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

Wow, excellent images of a bird I have never seen before. Nice catch light in the eye and that crest

Seems a long time since I visited this site but time does whizz by these days and I'm always busy. Still it's good to see it's ticking along nicely. As can be seen from my avatar, the Hoopoe is one of my favourite birds and whenever I go to Portugal it's like seeing old friends.

I have to agree. It's a lovely bird. We should get the visiting here but have yet to see one

Nothing but my notebook which is one of the most important parts of birding. To go out without it (which I only ever did once) is like going out without your pants on. I've never understood why I responded to the 'Cameras and Equipment' question in this way because in reality I own a Leica Telescope with eyepieces, Zeiss Binoculars, and a Manfrotto Tripod all of which cost a positive fortune.

Yes quite some bird the Hoopoe and an excellent way to work your way into the website.

Question. This is a hard act to follow......so what next Mike?

    Pete.
