Why are unread threads being marked as read?

I wondered why I previously missed some photos but assumed that my attention had been taken when I came across them, but just now I went into 'Bloomers' and there were 3 or 4 photos and the resulting comments all marked as read... but I hadn't even been on the computer since they were posted. Any clues?
