I think this is a God wit and probably a black-tailed But I'm not sure.

i think your're right chocky. it's a black tailed godwit.
the bar tailed is shorter and has a slightly up turned bill.
this black tailed is in winter plumage . it's bill is nice and straight.

It was a bit far out and the light was so awful and I had just walk for apx 4 miles and trekked across the estuary bed , soaking wet feet and was rather tied. But I don't give in easily and there he was so I had to photograph him.
