Equipment: Nothing but my notebook which is one of the most important parts of birding. To go out without it (which I only ever did once) is like going out without your pants on. I've never understood why I responded to the 'Cameras and Equipment' question in this way because in reality I own a Leica Telescope with eyepieces, Zeiss Binoculars, and a Manfrotto Tripod all of which cost a positive fortune.

Default Rare Plant

Anyone like to take on the challenge of identifying this rarity please.

Why has the image not appeared on the title of the thread please?

Pete.

It may be too small to allow conversion Pete, not had it happened before.

OK, sorted it, it was because the extension was jpeg and not jpg, simple as that, so I changed it to jpg and it worked.

Will show the picture to the plant oracle later, she may know what it is.

The oracle is not sure, but thinks it may be a Crocus or iris of some sort.

Ten days later!

Sorry, not ignoring this rare plant thread. Just thought I'd wait to see if anyone would have a go!

Its actually a Marsh Gentian and I know of only one place where it can be found. This of course doesn't mean there's nowhere else it can be found, only that I don't know about it.

What I do know is that it was the most exciting find I ever made in the world of rare flowers/plants. Taken to the location a 'few' years ago now by a friend who knew a great deal about such things, and I discovered how lucky I was to know him that day when we found this beauty.

Pete.
