OK thanks for this Rolf.
It was just that I wondered what the status was of the Comma down there with you and thought perhaps your reply may have been that they were so rare that this was the first you saw, though in truth I didn't really think this was the case hence the curiousity of why you hadn't seen one before got the better of me. Good luck with your future photographs of butterflies if you just got interested in them......great subjects for photography as your trio of pics here clearly illustrate......excellent. Pete. |

Excellent captures Rolf
![]() In the 19th century the British population of comma butterflies crashed, and by 1920 there were only two sightings. The cause for this decline is unknown, and from about 1930 the population recovered and it is now one of the more familiar butterflies ( Wikipedia) They are not considered to be an endangered species now |
