The biggest earthquake in the UK for nearly 25 years has shaken homes across large parts of England.
People in Newcastle, Yorkshire, London, Manchester, the Midlands and Norfolk and also parts of Wales, felt the tremor just before 0100 GMT. A man suffered leg injuries when a chimney collapsed in South Yorkshire. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the epicentre of the 5.3 magnitude quake was near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. I wonder.
Thing is I was up until 01:45 but every time a large vehicle goes by the house shakes so I wouldn't know if it rumbled down here or not but I will ask around to see if it was felt in the East Devon area |

well the earth definetly moved for me!! at exactly 00:59 a.m. we were awakened to our whole house shaking violently. our bed was juddering and our fitted wardrobe door was banging. there was a low rumbling noise. the door as it banged together went ...DddddDddddDddddDdddd. it lasted around 5-6 seconds and was quite scarey. as soon as it stopped our 15 year old son tom came out of his room into us and said his head had banged against the bed frame. next door you could hear the neighbours shouting to each other.
it stopped as quickly as it started. our other son who is at home with us at the moment, didnt hear a thing... neither did my parents who live about 3.5 miles away. it took a while before we managed to get back to sleep, so i was glad that i was on leave today ( took my father in law to a hospital appointment), as would normally have to clock on at 6-15 a.m.for work. my wife suffers with shoulder pain an felt that it was worse this morning, due to the juddering. on the news an expert said that this tremor was petty much on time. as history shows that they average out to occur at similar periods apart, from the previous ones. i cant remember a feeling like this one before... it was certainly an experience. i,m in preston ,lancashire...the epicentre was in lincolnshire, so it was quite a way from where i live. goodness knows how it must have felt for those directly affected. really bad quakes must be terrifying. ![]() |

Well I didn't know about it until this morning when I switched the telly on, not long after my son came downstairs and said did we have something like an earthquake here early this morning he said because he was in bed watching telly when it happened and he got up to check the house was okay. Well I heard him get up but didn't hear or feel the earthquake. Lots of people at work felt it too.
Can't remember how long ago now but about 5 or 6 years ago we had about three in one day in Manchester, during one of them my desk at work started to move backwards and forwards and I am sure I could feel the earth moving beneath me. It must be a terrible experience for the people whose countries are prone to earthquakes when a bad one starts |

Living 10 miles from andy b I also had the fright of my life, I still cannot understand why it was so strong here. I was still awake and was thumped in the back by the settee and having just taken some medication I at first thought wow that was strong then realised the earth had moved..... My wife was shaken in her bed sufficient to wake her and my daughter was on MSN chat to her boyfriend and was surprised by all the stuff on her desk moving around on her desk. I did not even feel the aftershock.
