Default Burning Hosebox on M4 today

Wondered why the traffic was slowing almost to a stop, then saw a column of smoke in the distance, looked like it was near the Berkshire Brewery, managed to get a couple of snaps with the phone, the heat was immense and could be felt through the closed window of the van.

The horse had been safely evacuated from the vehicle and was being held next to a couple of police cars, some 300 metres down the motorway.

Equipment: Nothing but my notebook which is one of the most important parts of birding. To go out without it (which I only ever did once) is like going out without your pants on. I've never understood why I responded to the 'Cameras and Equipment' question in this way because in reality I own a Leica Telescope with eyepieces, Zeiss Binoculars, and a Manfrotto Tripod all of which cost a positive fortune.

The horse was fine, I expect the engine caught fire and they were quick witted enough to immediately pull over and take it out.

Very glad to hear it, was concerned at first but then saw you standing further along the carriageway and everyone looked reasonably relaxed. How long did you have to wait for a replacement horsebox to arrive?

Crumbs, that's a long time, must have been difficult to keep the horse quiet for that period of time.
