The Parakeets of Wargrave

Found myself in Wargrave today and before long was staring into the tops of some distant trees at a group of birds with strange silhouettes.

Managed to get a little closer and snapped them with my little Fuji, it was a group of Green Parakeets

Spoke to my customer and apparently there is a small colony of them down by the river, would be interested if anyone has any better photos, these were taken late afternoon, hence the poor quality.

I used to own two of these Are green female and a blue male. Lovely birds Indian Rose Ring neck parakeets. I gave the green female back to the dreader, two were a bit much especially as they were opposite sex. The blue one I called Piorot right from a chick I was sure he be a male and the black part of the ring starts under th beak like a mustache.
In Petts Wood Kent the pet shop there let about 5 green escape now the Woo is full of them

Indian Rose-ring neck Parrakeet's: Psittacula krameri
OK here are two youngsters. These are not escapees but are the same. Indian rose ring neck parrakeet's. The green one on the left is that which you will find in wooded areas in various places around kent, Redding and other places out skirting London. They are very noisy. I believe that they are now termed as British parrakeet's and recognized by the RSPB.

the one on the right is colour bred in captivity they can be bread in Blue , yellow and white. Green is their natural colour.
The two above are only a year old. they don't obtain the ros and black ring round the neck until 2 years old . The green (Lasslo)is a female and the Blue piorot is a male. These were my pets but are the same as those in the photo Rolf has uploaded.

Yes I had mine for about 4 years .Until I had to part with them

There are quite a few in Petts Wood Bromley They escaped from the local pet shop about 6 years ago
