Large Pike
I met a young chap on the Exter canal today who had just hooked this 14lb.10
He was so pleased with himself I then with his little camera and took3 photos of him with the fish . He then put it very gently back into the canal. All fish have t be put back into the canal
I was pleased for him too. It was so big and thrashed about so much it had the chap over
On the Exeter canal one has to have a license to fish and a warden checks about every three hours. The canal is a shipping canal and very clean and maintained. No supermarket trolleys or rubbish. It runs through farmland with a huge nature reserve. and there is a very large sanctuary all along one side up to the double lock which has hide holes to look through . How ever here is the fish

WOW!......some catch for the fisherman Beryl, and a super opportunity for a pic for the two of you, three of you if counting the fish which is quite a monster.
Nice capture is your phrase Beryl and it fits nicely into this one.
Pete.

Lol. Thanks Pete.
Nice capture in more ways than one.

Surprised they have to put Pike back, as they can decimate other fish stocks and even clutches of young waterfowl.

All fish have to go back in the canal. It's the rules apparently.I asked the chap if he was going to take it home fore dinner and he was telling me how no fish are aloud to be kept . I also read a notice about it and the license and the canal is patrolled. It is too . I talked to the gate keepers last time about the canal. It's a lovely place to go. No litter, no dogs calling cards . very clean
Not much water fowl in the canal Just the swans. The waterfowl have the reserve at the side rarely anything but a couple of pairs swan
I think it is more to do with angling club competitions on carp and pike. The largest caught so far was a 30lb pike
