Not really sure Catherine, had considered the other explanation.
Nice pics Rolf almost decided to go there myself this morning. If they are like black swans then they do the other possibility while swimming.
I have had another look at the beaks, and I think that's a female being flattened - so a 'bit of the other' is probably right!;)
