Today i head a magpie, only when i looked at the bird it looked like a thrush of some sort. Is this normal for them to sound simular to magpie/machine guns... im fairly sure it was him as the beak was moving to the noise... i know daft question..

A Mistle Thrush will make that sort of sound, particularly as a warning call.

Rolf has beaten me to it probably with the right bird
But any way there you go Billy and it's not a daft question :)
