Endeavour
When the Shuttle Endeavour launched on May 16th
on STS-134 mission there were clouds at 5000 feet,
and the clouds were at least 500 feet thick.
Folks on ground could see the Shuttle for only 22 seconds
before it vanished into the clouds.
But someone sent me this picture taken above the clouds.
Thought you might enjoy.
Last Shuttle "E N D EAVOR" flight from KSC, 5-16-2011.
A seriously nifty photo of the LAST shuttle launch,
From the best seat in the house...an F-15E Strike Eagle at 26 thousand feet
over the east coast flying protective combat air patrol for the launch.

(Thank goodness it was well away from the jet!)
For anyone interested and able to be down this way, the Bournemouth Air Festival is on today, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, and this afternoon two F-15Es will be performing over the seafront at about 3pm (weather permitting) - LATEST NEWS | Bournemouth Air Festival
Sorry, no Shuttles - but a great programme none-the-less!:)

Most planes are based at Hurn (Bournemouth) Airport for the duration, and you should be able to see them from the road nearby, but some may come straight from Southampton, or their bases elsewhere. Some approach the display zone by flying over the town, but others appear from the Isle of Wight area. In fine weather, and good binoculars, there is normally a decent view from Christchurch, Highcliffe or Barton cliffs.
(For the last 4 years, the Red Arrows have flown directly over our house at some point during the show - really noisy!)
