Fighting Godwits
Went to Bowling Green marsh and was walking along the lane past the hide where every few metres there is gap in the hedgerow for people yo see the marshes and birds. Whilst watching the Wigeon a black-tailed Godwit suddenly flew down then another almost landed on top of it . I suddenly realized they were fighting and captured the whole sequence of the fight . I can't upload it all as I took 29 captures in all but here are some of them and it was very ferocious.
The last photo show the victor a little disheveled but non the worse for his claim to status

Well done Beryl, nice series of photos, they certainly meant business.:)

Thanks Rolf :)
They certainly did mean business Rolf. I thought they were going to kill each other .wow

Yes excellent Beryl. Not witnessed this between Black - tailed Godwits before. I can only suppose it was all to do with the breeding season, perhaps two males in a dispute of some sort......interesting stuff.
Pete.

Thanks Pete :)
I really don't know why they were fighting. They flew in form another area of the marshes so I didn't see what sparked it off but I would imagine it was over a lady :D

Yes, certainly doesn't seem like a mating display!
Like Pete, I would think it was two males fighting for one female.
Well done, Beryl!

Thanks Catherine :)
Oh yes. Definitely two males At first I though Hello a mating but soon realized it was a fight.
The female was on another part of the marsh
