there were also many Butterflies of various sizes and colours, but I was concentrating on insects which stayed a bit more still!;)

Me too, it reminds me of hanging about the end of the neighbours garden where there was a ditch surrounded by trees - I spent many a happy time playing there and marvelling at the Boatmen.
