Hes got until February - there will be one last chance to see all 6 A4's at Shildon Railway Museum mid Feb then DO Canada & DD Eisenhower are going home to their respective museums in North America

He stays in Huntingdon now - works with Eurostar - and often manages to visit that museum in York!

Heres the 4th one - Dwight. And a nice contrast to see it in green even though they really do look spectacular in the bright blue.

Quite stunning! Those locos mix a beautiful aerodynamic shape with unrepeated style!

Of the 2 missing A4's Union of South Africa is green and Sir Nigel Gresley is blue :)

I have seen the first two, but not Dominion of Canada.

What wonderful art-deco-style locos! (Not unlike the one at start of Poirot episodes.)

DOC was sold in 1966 after being withdrawn, and has been in Canada ever since before being brought back for this one off.

I very much doubt they will come back in our lifetimes once they go home early next year :(

There is one final chance to see all six A4's parked up together. Its at "The Great Goodbye" gathering at Shildon Rail Museum between Feb 15th - 23rd.

Mallard 75 - National Railway Museum

This really is the final chance - Dominion Of Canada & Dwight D Eisenhower will be shipped back to their home museums in Canada & USA shortly after this event finishes.

Shildon is a couple of miles south of Bishops Auckland in County Durham. Just off the A68.

Thanks for the info, Ross. Still busy emptying boxes at new home in Huntingdon, but have passed your info on to Mike. He sometimes goes up that way on Eurostar business, so may manage a peek!:)

I was at Shildon early Saturday morning. It was very busy there but seeing all 6 locos in one place was absolutely fantastic.

Sir Nig Gresley was giving brakevan rides along the quarter mile of track, whilst the other 5 were lined up in more or less the "classic pose" across the yard. (By lunchtime the crowds were really building up so we bailed out)

I'll put some pics up when Ive pulled them off the camera.

A horrible drive down the A68 on Friday night - heavy snow at Carter Bar was just the start - we also went through drizzle, rain, torrential rain, thick fog, sleet and had to contend with flooded roads as well.......

Not fun!

But the horrible drive was sooooo worth it!

And heres Sir Nigel running passenger trips. Although it has to be said 3 brake vans was a very light load for such a magnificent engine

One of my colleagues went down the following weekend and managed to get all 6 in a row - Union was on the brake vans that day and had set back much further than SNG had done when we were there.

Yup Im more than just a bit jealous :D

( Having moved up to Huntingdon, we haven't had much time on the Internet as there is so much to do in the house - but we're getting there - full steam ahead!;))

Just seen the visitor figures for the Shildon "Great Goodbye" event

They expected 70,000 over the 9 days.

They got 120,000!

Also a wealthy patron has offered both the Stateside museums $1million to keep their locos here in the UK. Sadly both offers have been refused, & Dominion & Dwight should return to their home museums in early May. Im hoping to get to Shildon next week to see the two of them one last time before they go home.
