Looks like a Sparrowhawk :).
Yes, agree with Beryl Sparrowhawk Neil which may reduce your garden birds a 'little' too.

As I say I was a bit puzzled because less than 3 feet away was a thrush and a couple of sparrows and I thought they would steer clear
Lol. They probably froze on the spot. one move and they would be goners for sure:)
