Nice capture. :)
Been looking through my books to try and find out what it is, but no luck yet. :) Nice shot.
Me neither. looks like one of the hawks but not sure:)
I had a quick look on a moth ID website but couldn't see one like it.
Nice ones - but don't ask me about moths!
nice shots. the second shot could be a space alien!!:)
It's an Angle Shades - Phlogophora meticulosa Moth
Well it looks very interesting, nice shots what ever it is :)
It definately is the Angle shades Moth and it is quite nice looking when viewed from above

I think I recognise it - it's commonly known as the 'Hunchback Moth', latin name - "Quasimodius Notradamii" :-)))

Thanks for the links. There must be considerable variation in pattern and morphology as mine didn't have the flat/ ridged wings like the ones in links 1 and 3.
Do moths hatch fully grown from a cocoon?
It may have not pumped the blood into its wings when you took the shot, they start off shrivelled up. :)
I believe that they emerge from the Chrysalis fully grown.
I'm sure they do but like butterflies I guess the have to dry out so could look a little different and I'm not sure how soon they get their colouring
P.S.
Have just realised Rolf and I have posted at the same time.
I agree with what Rolf has said
It may have been fairly "fresh" then?
Yes it does look as though it has just emerged . It is definately an Angle Shades and they can vary in colour to there back grounds I think like camouflage
Here you go. :)
Wow! Very impressive.
Excellent Rolf. What a performance
Great isn't it. :) Would love to get into time lapse photography. :)
Yes. I would too. Great fun . needs a great deal of time though
Wow that is something else, thanks for that rolf that is totally amazing to watch:clapping:
