Looking on the web there are now apparently over 3000 waxwings in the UK (normally only 100 or so). I know they are a rare visitor to this area but do people know the nearest place they are (from Fleet, Hampshire) or a spot where they COULD go.
Mentioned in another thread Alex, there have been some in Guildford, not too many miles away, 10 in Stoke Park. you may consider subscribing to birdguides.com for their bird news extra, although if any come near Surrey or Berkshire and Hampshire, I'm sure someone will post on the forum.
PS. Welcome to the forum.
Welcome from me too, Alex!
I'm sure that three flew over us this afternoon - on the way to the Channel.
(Well, I'm NEARLY sure anyway!)
Goodness, it sounds like a year for adding them to you 'spotted' list :-) .. and 'welcome' from me to!
I found some!!!!! There are 4 in Bracknell showing extremely well. A first for me!!
I was over there yesterday, went to the site three times and didn't catch them, on the last visit I arrived at 16:30 I missed them by three minutes.
Our member Grandalf managed a photo.

where are they in bracknell, might go hunting them having never ever seen one for myself..
51.397330° -0.727457° Just behind the Horndean Road shops in Worlds End Hill.
Was there for an hour this afternoon, leaving when one of the owners of the houses opposite decided it would be fun to scare the birds away by letting off a firework, pretty sure it was let off for that reason, as they were stood at the window watching for the results.
Anyway, the four Waxwings spent their time up in a tall Ash tree, periodically flying down to a nearby Rowan, eating a couple of berries, then returning to the tall tree
Here are my photos from a very dull and cloudy late afternoon, far too dark for decent photos, but delighted to have seen these beautiful birds..
Brilliant i might toddle over there tommorrow have a drive around, are they good any time of day... i just want to see them would be really cool... Good pictures though ralf,
No, they are there sporadically Billy, you'll have to take your chances.
so if i find them try the lottery this week then!! lol
Well not quite as bad as that, but they're not there all the time.
Really good shots, Rolf, despite it getting dark!
I like the silhouette of the 'upside down' Waxwing - had to think about that one for a while!
Such a pity those with a low mentality and nothing better to do with their time scare those lovely birds away.
Yes, 'tis a shame, they may perhaps resent the number of strangers hanging around looking at the trees in their street.
Been to Bracknell Today Wednesday Morning 10th Nov and they were there, well two were, and 1 Blackbird who also liked the Rowan Berries.
Also Spotted Six Other Twittchers!
Well done, wish the weather had been like that yesterday, didn't have time to get over there today.
How lovely, Vastra!
That poor Blackbird looks really miffed - with those two weird poachers raiding her larder!
[Maybe she thought Jedward had arrived?]
i was there 10am ish and i found nada... thought i saw some near tescos but couldnt stop... must try harder!!
Looks like they're back in the area, certainly some more have turned up over in a similar location of Bracknell, and now some near the station at Thatcham. Might try and get some better photos during the week if I get time.
where abouts in bracknell the same area?? or a new area??
Behind Birch hill community centre yesterday.
currently 50 near forest park, moving round the area. Feeding or appears off the fir trees in the woodcutters pub parking area. Very active, but didnt leave forest area, they flew off a few times...
off now for a lie down the excitement has worn me out!!
That sounds wonderful, Billy. How lucky you've been - not that I'm at all jealous!
