    Default young cormorant

    yesterday we thought we had found a rare bird due to the white breast but on checking the book for ID its actually a youngster - taken at the Sandford Lake Dinton Pastures C.P.

    A large and conspicuous waterbird, the cormorant has an almost primitive appearance with its long neck making it appear almost reptilian. It is often seen standing with its wings held out to dry. Regarded by some as black, sinister and greedy, cormorants are supreme fishers which can bring them into conflict with anglers and they have been persecuted in the past. The UK holds internationally important wintering numbers.

    Nice shots Ann, I know anglers hate Cormorants, but I love them.

    Nice shots, Ann!

    Thoughts of a young Cormorant;
    1. These Lapwings are on MY patch. They're not going to boss ME!
    2. I'll just flap my wings and knock them off it...
    2. ....so I will get the place to myself again!
