Default Extra hidden duty on fuel

I wasn't aware that when the government reduced VAT to 15%, they increased fuel duty to compensate by 2 pence, but now that the VAT rate has returned to 17.5%, the 2 pence levy is still there.

What I'd like to know as well is why diesel is SO expensive down here - just a few miles from Fawley, one of the country's largest oil refineries!

It's 110.9p in Ayr and in Basingstoke (for example), yet the cheapest in New Milton is 114.9p.

Of course, I realise that part of the reason for that is that we have neither an Asda nor a Morrison's nearby, so Texco sells it at 114.9p, knowing it's still the best price in the area.

I'm also willing to protest to Tesco that their '5p off a litre' (if you spend £50 in the store just now) is, in reality, just 1p off a litre - since they market it at such an inflated price anyway...

And those oil tankers anchored off our coast in The Channel, laden with fuel from the Middle East, and waiting until demand is higher so they can raise the price to the refineries even more...

Oh, yes, Rolf! I'll definitely sign that petition - after all, as Tesco say, 'Every little helps!'!

Well, we had this for years. First they add a atx on fuel and then they add the vat. If any normal person was trying to do that they would be arrested.

Think it is time we arrest the State
