    Default Battle of britain

70 years ago, my grans first husband of only a month died in the battle of britian... my uncle found this artical thought youd like to read. The lady in the caravan is my gran,

    Heroes of Britain

My grans ashes are buried at his grave, so we spent yesterday there tidying it. Then driving to selsey bill where he last flew over before being shot down. The 602 were the most sucessful squadren, esp given as they were reservists.

Thanks for that, Billy. It's always amazing to read the stories of these men and women who gave up so much to protect out country. The airforce was awful for taking lives - such a high proportion were killed, but they did such a lot. And they were rerservists, eh?

It's lovely that your gran's ashes are buried with her husband - they didn't have long together in life but at least they are together in death, that's a lovely thing to have done, and also great that you honoured their memories the way you did.

Billy, it must have been a very emotional day for you on Sunday. Your pride must have been more than tinged wth regret at what had happened.

They were indeed very brave men, 602 Squadron, and their heroic deeds will never be forgotten. What sadness there must have been when your grandmother knew his body was washed ashore.

It is impossible to imagine how people must have felt when war was all around them - on both sides of the Channel and on both sides of the battle. However, our modern belief that wars have no real winners and should have no place in our lives must not be allowed to diminish the remembrance of those in the past who gave their lives for 'our tomorrow'.

It's lovely to hear that the German graves are also looked after too.
