That's quite dramatic, are the starling gatherings regular there now?

You have caught the action really well, Vastra. I love the pinkish colour of the fading November sky!

These are two species of bird which I cannot call my favourites, but it never ceases to amaze me at each one's agility in flight.

I wonder at how the Starlings can fly is such wonderfully close formation and form such amazing shapes in mass in the sky - and also at how the Sparrowhawk is not put off by that flying swarm, and manages to focus on one bird to aim for.

It must have been awesome to watch!

Satday Nov 20th and the Starlings were not there this evening.
My Camera settings were ok set for Poor Light conditions, but when the Sparrowhawk Attacked, the Action was maybe Twice as fast!

I LOVE that second shot! The movement in it is so amazing - and so artistic!

Lovely set of shots - what a great site to see, both the whole Starling thing, and the 'intruder'. I agree with Catherine about the 2nd shot of the 2nd batch, it's a stunning shot and really gets the whole cat amongst the pigeons' feeling going. Great shots!

Thanks ladylo, Good to see u back, heard that u have been busy elsewhere / I think that the Sparrowhawk appears in the 5th Shot, lower right and in the 3rd and 4th in the second batch, tho there going so fast as to be almost invisible to the Camera! All shots were in fact taken on the P (program) mode on my D40
