    I was just about topackup and go home when there was a sudden flap behind me ,looking round I thought "oh a Woodpigeon" (after training my eyes on the sky for some time they needed to adjust) Then I realised the tail was much too long and had four bars . I just started snapping away and here we are a (Mail I think) Sparrow hawk just a few feet from me.

    Really nice captures Beryl, they really are superb birds, not always popular when arriving in my garden, but superb nonetheless.

    most of my efforts are digi-scoped, using an opticron hr66 scope, pentax optio v15 digital camera and homemade adaptor.+ a panasonic lumix fz28

    fantastic pictures chocky, i love to see these magnificent birds. i live near a golf course and a pair nest in the surrounding trees. i'm lucky as i see them regularly.

    I was so surprised. He was so close. I know a little wooded area along the estuary and I was just standing there waiting for birds to come in , it a time thing and patience but it pays off now and then

    The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

    Way hey Chocky, what delightful captures I bet your really chuffed, I like how you have managed to capture the front and the back of the Sparrowhawk, they would make good reference images

    Yes. I thought that about that for identification. I have him with his head turned in each of the poses . I took some 27 shots but moslythe samd as those above

    Great captures of the Male sparrowhawk! beautiful bird... we have apair visit our garden but only to come in and steal starlings off the feeders now and then..not a pleasant sight.
