    Default Great Spotted Woodpecker

Spotted this woodpecker as I was wandering along the top of the nature walks sort of up in the canopy. This is the male as he has a red patch at the back of his head (nape). The female has no red patch on head or nape and a juvenile male has a small patch on the top of his head

A nice series of captures Chocky.

I tried the tapping on a tree with a stick trick at Erlegh lake the other day and it brought one to investigate, but he was behind another tree, so I couldn't get any photos. It does work though.
