Olympus E-30, Sigma 50-500mm Lens, Sigma 150mm Macro lens, Zuiko 70-300mm lens, Sigma 50mm F1,4 lens, Extension tube, 1.4x tele-converter, Carbon FibreTripod, Monopod, Vanguard Binoculars, Celestron 80F-ED Scope, Remembird recorder.

Default Goosanders at Moor Green Lakes Reserve

These Goosanders didn't come very close to the hide and were pretty much out of reach, even for the 500mm and teleconverter.

Nice bird the drake Goosander Rolf, I saw two myself this afternoon. The best of the rest today were, Peregrine Falcon, Little Egret, Grey and Golden Plovers, and four of the Scaup weve been talking about recently.

i know what you mean about the goosanders keeping their distance. for the past few years, we have had goosanders on the local park duck pond. there have been 3 males and 3 females this winter. they always swim to the furthest part of the pond, away from people and are very skittish if you approach too closely. these pics of a female were taken in 2005. they are very poor quality, taken across the pond, and in very poor light. at the time i tried to enhance the pics but all i got were these grainy images.
p.s. have you noticed that there are a few bird species, where the females have the gingery brown head plumage? the goosander, blackcap and smew are three that come to mind.

Have you still got the originals Andy? I can run them through noise ninja and see I they can be improved, but to be quite honest, the second one is not bad at all.

i only have these two enhanced ones, that where the best of a bad original bunch. the second one actually looks better as a resized image than the full sized shot i have!!
