    Default little ringed plover

i spotted this little ringed plover tonight on an after tea stroll around lightfoot pools, preston. it was one of three birds. they were very skittish and it was difficult to get close to them. lightfoot pools are part of a working sand quarry. little ringed plovers like shingly ground at the edges of water. quarries make good man made nesting sights. there have been l.r.p's at these pools for the past few years. also present were 100+ sand martins. these were already entering nest holes excavated in the sand bank walls.

Any chance of a little info on Lightfoot Green quarry Andy. I'm well aware of the locations potential and do know it 'turns up' some good birds from time to time. I've looked at the maps but cannot really tell how hard/easy it is to get to and observe. Whats my next move when I arrive at the traffic lights and turn right at Barton from the Lancaster direction.

    Pete.

Got the directions Andy, many thanks......much appreciated.
