    Here's another one to look out for Beryl on your many travels.

    Next time you see Redshank in winter make sure none of them is one of these. This is the Spotted Redshank a unique bird which transforms from what you see in this image to a bird with a summer/breeding plumage as 'black as coal'.

    I'm not supposing you don't already know this Beryl.

    Not the best photograph in the world being very heavily cropped.

    Yes. We had one here this year.It was always over nearer Star Cross. Too far for me to capture.. They go very dark in the summer Bird watchers come form all over to the reserve to see spot red shanks and others especially t Bowling Green Marsh,
    It has a distinctive stripe from his beak through his eye
