Not from the East? Caucasian Chiffchaff? Phylloscopus lorenzii. Not one we'd be likely to see in these parts though.

(At least that should rule out another one for you, Rolf!)

OK. Well done, Rolf! (says she grudgingly!)

    I've found this page which might help understand those letters at the foot of each pic in future;
Bird names translation Not that you'd ever need to use it of course, Rolf!

Ah, this means that I have to use numbers and number only, it will make it harder for me to remember but it will make that site useless for this game. Cheating is, however, allowed

Thnink we've got some confusion here, the Caucasian Warbler is Phylloscopus lorenzii, Berggransångare. Bonelli's Warbler or Western Bonelli's Warbler in some countries is Phylloscopus bonelli, Bergsångare, the latter will be found in Western Europe, the former is really a middle Eastern bird.

Yes, it is a western bonelli´s so I think it is sorted by now.

We can´t work with a bird for ages, can we ? Think they are rather look-a-like

This bird is very rare in Sweden so it was a big surprise when it turned up in the Stockholm area

Hope that it is as rare in the UK

As You might notice - it is not only rare but shy as well. Good luck!

It looks like a Sedge warbler, but don't think they're rare in Sweden, Acrocephalus schoenobaenus.

That picture was not one of the best as it was a rare bird and the bird was a little bit shy

It is, of course, not a Sedge warbler.

Well if it's the one it looks most like (there's quite a few with similar markings), it is well off track, as the closest match I can find in my books is a Paddyfield Warbler - Acrocephalus agricola.

I guess it wasn't photographed in Sweden then, Crister?

Rolf, I should have expected something like that!

Which reminds me of something that really happened...
A (very posh) Glasgow friend told me she always added rice to her mince to make it go further with her family. When I said I didn't fancy that, she said I should, as it was a traditional Glasgow recipe. My reply was to the effect that it might have been a wartime necessity, but if it were really a traditional Glasgow recipe, where were there paddy fields near the city?

She didn't answer - but maybe it was those you refer to in Dublin!

Well, Catherine -all birds I present here are from Sweden (so far) and they have all been seen here.

So, it was a very rare bird - I can remember I had something even more rare some times back, think Rolf remember that.
