    Default Buzzard at Shurlock Row

    Was driving along the straight Mile at Shurlock Row towards Bracknell and spotted two large raptors in a field, so quickly pulled over and got the Olympus out with the 300mm lens to see if I could get a photo. Turns out it was two Buzzards (Buteo buteo) flanked by several groups of Fieldfare and Crows.

    They were a little too far out for good photos and I didn't have the 500mm lens with me, but got a couple of photos the Buzzards which are good enough for identification.

    The last photo was his gesture to me just before he flew off.

    The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

    The shame is Babs, that on my way home, I was on the motorway and saw another Buzzard sat on the fence by the Burghfield services, but had no way of photographing it and it was less than ten metres away.

    Surely if you had put your mobile phone down you would have had a hand free to take a snap or was the traffic moving at speed for a change

    No, unfortunately I had nowhere to put my mug of Bovril and the cigarette would have stubbed itself out on the camera, so even putting the phone down wouldn't have helped really Neil.

    Great photos, Rolf! I've only just seen them!

    Please make sure you get one of those hides for a TALL person though - otherwise your electric socks (red?) will give the game away as you walk off wearing it!. And you WILL remember not to smoke inside it....... just in case...?

    LOL, funnily enough Catherine, they stand with the cover about four inches off the ground, so will have to wear quiet socks.

    Don't smoke really, so no problem with that, just as long as the flask of mulled wine can sit on the spare seat.
