    This little beggar was a real grumpy thing - it kept chasing other types of bees away from the little patch of oregano flowers. I've never notice one like this before.

    It appears that this is actually a fly, not a bee. Explains why I hadn't seen one before, although why it was chasing off the Bees I don't know!!!

    Yes you are right it' a mimic bee. Bees have antenae
    It looks like a Drone Fly .I could be wrong but it's one of those type

    Unfortunately I have a very limited knowledge of wildlife, but putting the photos up on here has made me learn what it is I've been snapping

    Thanks for that Rolf, I do have a number of hoverfly photos and did want to be able to name them properly.
