This is pretty typical of what I was seeing whilst trying to photograph the little bird. The second bird is a small duckling, which gives a good idea of how small these Grebes are.

Not always Chocky, on that occasion he dis, but sometimes they'll materialise 20 metres downstream.
They can't half hold their breath for long. Nice bit of film.

Yes the do seam to be able to stay under water for a long time
