    Default Great Spotted Woodpecker - Dendrocopos major

    I am SO excited. I've only caught a brief glimpse of one of these before, but I saw this one land and scamper about the tree for a couple of minutes. The photo isn't great as it was quite far up and hand held in the shade just doesn't do it.
    But I was amazed at how it moved more like a squirrel than a bird, straddling its legs around the trunk. Fantastic!

    The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.
