    Catherine, yes it is the caterpiller of the cinnabar moth (tyria jacobaeae) which is a beautiful brilliant red and black moth.

    I am jealous Beryl, I've been looking out for the moth. He was keeping quite still so I was able to use a tripod. The first was with a 70-200mm and the second with a 105 mm macro.
