    Default Coot - Fulica atra

    Normally, every time I try to get a nice shot of this bird, it keeps its distance. This time there was a couple on my side of the water, and one of them seemed perfectly happy to stay on this bank and just study me as I stood just a few feet away.... then he/she (I'm sure they know the difference, but I have no idea I'm afraid) jumped in, swam around to the back of the log and poked about at the floating leaves you can just see behind.... then floated about a bit before swimming off. Normally I can't get anywhere near them. Go figure!

    Wonderful photo, Louise!

    I find it difficult to get good pics of Coots - even though they are everywhere! You've got a specially good one there - and look at those feet! I guess Coots are the police force of the pond!
