Default Lots of snow in the Scottish Borders!

As you have probably heard on the news the Scottish Borders has been badly hit by the snow in recent days.

All schools have been shut all week, and drivers are being told not to use the road network unless its a matter of life and death as the council tries to get the road s operational for the beginng of next week.

However the snow has been making for some lovely photo opportunities

This area is well recommended for a holiday if you like a quiet area with beautiful scenery.

None of the towns are very big, and there hundreds of square miles of countryside to roam around in.

Its not really very well known round here - most tourist go tearing straight through heading for Edinburgh of the Highlands.. And its such a shame.

Have you got many nature reserves in the area?

Theres quite a few around yes. Theres a couple of NNR's and a few Scottish Wildlife Trust ones as well.

These arent the huge ones with massive car parks you get in some areas - they tend to be smaller ones for things like fens and mosses

Beautiful, almost-virgin snow, Ross, with the footprints and tyre marks telling their own stories.

It was lovely to watch a farm in South Lanarkshire on Sky today. When we stayed in Lanark, a 'must' in snowy weather was a run out to see what Tinto looked like, resplendent in white!

The are no real hills or mountains down here, but the New Forest heath is still beautiful in the snow!

Beautiful - pity that that beauty comes at a price. I do feel guilty though when we, down here complain about the snow - we get it light in comparison!

The snow has been lying here since December 17th, and there are around 12 inches sitting on the lawn! Current outside temperature is -11.6C according to my little weather station

No signs of it going soon either with -21 degrees from the latest reports.
    Nice pictures Ross.
