Yellow/Orange fly
I didn't think that his would be too difficult, but the Yellow Dung fly has different shaped and coloured eyes (The colour could change, but not the shape).
The Second one I found was Suillia affinis - again, wrong colour but that could possibly be because it was new and not developed properly. It looks very similar otherwise, but I'm still not convinced.
So, "Yellow Fly" it is :)

Hmm, not sure about this one either, scoured my insect book, have come to the same conclusion, it's a yellow fly. :) Good shots though.

Ooh, I forgot to say that he was hoovering up the sugardew left by the greenfly.

He looks horrible and hairy! A cross between a Robber Fly and a Cleg..., but I don't know what he is.
Are you sure he wasn't eating the Greenfly too?

You're right there Catherine, he does look like that. I'm not sure about biting, but he would certainly give you a hard suck ;)
