Pheasant
OK, so I'm pushing it here - you're going to need your glasses. I was actually taking a picture of the scenery, and it was only when I looked at it later that I realised there had been a bird. If I had known I could probably have got a bit closer since they are a bit dense.
Anyway, just wanted to add to my 'bird-count' :)
Previously I was walking by one of these fields having just switched off the camera (I was taking butterflies and was moving on to the next patch of flowers), when just in front of me exploded 6 or so pheasants who had been tucked into a group of largish weeds, then stopped at about 6/8 feet from me. If only the camera had been on.... but them's the breaks :)

Them's are.
But I think that's fantastic. I have never been that close,. I have never seen one .
Excellent shot. Well done :)

They are not the brighteset of creatures so it's easy to see them when the are near a road ... they just don't learn what a danger it can be. Once I was with my mum and one was at the side of the road, facing the wood, not the road, so instead of running in the direction it was facing (i.e. away from us), it decided that it was a good idea to run straight in front of us. All I can say is, splatt!
