Ah yes, first one I've seen in the wild and great that it's one of the day hunting birds.:)
Well here's today's efforts, was well over 100m away, so not very clear, but excited nonetheless at actually getting a record shot.:) The view through the scope was a little better.

Was it looking at the holes in the turned-over earth, hoping to spot a movement? I guess it would be easier to see a mouse/other there as there is no vegetation to hide a little furry creature. (Feeling sorry for his prey now.....!)
Apparently they'll perch on the ground after a feed, not always in a tree, but of course somewhere where something can't sneak up on them.
Great programme on BBC2 just now - a Natural World one re Super-powered Owls. A couple raise a pair of Barn Owl chics from eggs Should be on catch up programmes when you return! Hope someone can find it for you if you are not home in time!
