Have tried this before with little success, but tried it last Monday on my last day in France and it worked too well.
The reason I say too well, is that the Great-spotted Woodpecker kept coming to the tree I was tapping, so I was unable to get any photos. :bang:
He did eventually however move to a tree slightly further away, so it wasn't all in vain.:)
Have never heard of that, Rolf! Must try it some time!:)
What a great idea, I'd not heard of the either, Catherine. But trust the little blighter to still make it difficult for you :)
I heard it on one of the nature programmes, perhaps Springwatch or similar, but was impressed at how well it worked.:) I think it is probably more effective in the breeding season.
