Thanks Chocky and rolf, it was a total suprise I had never seen one in the garden before. We usually have to travel all the way to Rivington to see one![]()
Well hopefully once they've found you Babs, they'll be regular visitors, probably my favourite birds in the garden.![]()
Yes it is a very nice photo. I like these little birds![]()
I haven't seen one of these . I quite like it. Nice pic.![]()
A lovely picture of a beautiful bird
well babs, what a lovely picture of a cracking little bird!!
i,m quite lucky up here in preston, i live near to Ingol golfcourse. i use the surrounding area as my 'local patch'. there are a number of old deciduous trees present, so a walk around usually throws up a nuthatch or two.
even if you don't actually spot them, their distintive call can be heard.
in 2005 i found a pair nest building. i watched them narrowing the hole with mud. the birds worked tirelessly and eventually fledged three young.
one morning i was privileged to follow the family as they flit from tree to tree on an early foraging mission. i watched them for a good 3/4 hour before they flew to more inaccessible places.
earlier this year i spotted another nuthatch nest building. unfortunately, after several return visits, it appeared that the bird had decided against the nestsite....... well, there's always next year!!
anyway i hope your nuthatch returns as they a joy to see.
regards, andy b.
Well, Andy B, I do envy you having been able to watch them build and forage like that - and a family as well!
Great photo, Babs!
