Female great crested newt, held by a licenced hand.
Taken with a Canon EF 55-250mm.
Great shots
I agree, very good shots, loads of detail showing. Long time since I've seen one of those in the flesh, probably 45 years or more.
Not many locations to see this creature mhuk a much endangered? species of newt.
Excellent images but birds/newts held in the hand never 'fire' me up.
Pete.
very clear shots mhuk. great for id/reference shots.
presumably the newt must have been very drunk to allow you to hold it like that
ROFL (andy B).
Nice to see them. I do miss seeing stuff like that - we used to see so much when kids, but it's not so easy now.
Excellent images and what fantastic markings it has. I know of one pond where they are but I haven't seen them yet.
Thanks for the comments.
She was easy enough to take a photo of as she came our of out bottle trap. It was either a hand or no photo as the "ground" was bullrush and flag iris.
It's the end of the breeding season now so you probably won't see any in ponds now and will have to wait until next March.
