Beetle's are always hard to identify I think as theres so many of them, but give it a go anyway please
It's a Common Red Soldier Beetle Eddy, loads around and nearly always at it.
Thanks for that Rolf, can mark it as satisfied now.
Or, as Beryl recently posted, a new common name is the Hogweed Bonking Beetle. Call me old-fashioned, but I think I prefer the older common name
Because of their red colour, these beetles are popularly known as blood suckers (but they do not actually suck blood.) Their habit of mating conspicuously on umbellifer heads has gained them the nickname hogweed bonking beetle.

The problem with popular names is that different areas have different names - Soldier Beetle (without the Red) is what I've always known them as.
Always called them Bloodsuckers as kids back in the late 50s.
Must admit I knew bloodsuckers as a kid in the 50's but these aren't as red as I remember.
I do remember a 'blood-sucker' as a kid, but not these ones - more blood-red, so probably the same ones as you remember... I just don't know what they were :-)
No, just your eyesight fading with age Louise.
...along with everything else, errm, sorry - what was your name ?
