after a long wait I took this KF yesterday at the Bittern hide - so pleased
Well done Ann, nice shot. Last time I was in the Bittern hide was for the scope demonstration and didn't get to look out very much, whereabouts is that perch?
On the right of the Bittern hide Rolf placed on the bund there are 3 perches
Best Kingfisher Shot ever seen!
I must get down there as soon as the builders have finished their work in my house.
Thats a fabulous picture Anne - best view Ive ever had of a KF has been the iridescent flash of blue as the little sod zips away down the river!
That is a really lovely shot, lucky you !
Some good news about KF numbers here :
In an annual survey of wildlife spotted around rivers and canals for British Waterways, the number of kingfishers seen by members of the public between March and September has risen 217% to 596, despite fears many of the birds might not survive last winter's icy spell.
BBC News - Who, what, why: Why the resurgence in kingfishers?
That is indeed good news.
Best View Ever or Photo of Kingfisher Today (Same Place,Same Bird?) Just Posed for us for about 5 minutes on the Perches! Never Seen the Like of Such Behavior! They useually just a Blur!
well done Vastra its so exciting when he/she decides to pay a visit but not seen him again in two weeks, the sparrowhawk did a fly past and ALL the birds vanished
Nice set Vastra, as you say, unusual for them to sit still for that long.
Cool - and it's nice to see the head from a straight-on angle - doesn't look quite as grand
Great photos form you too, Vastra!
As Louise says, they look so different from the front. From the side they look 'all head' with a very little body, yet from the front the head is narrow and the body looks big!
Yes, the proportions are just SO different from the different angle.
Am Learning with my new uploader at present so here are some more of the same event.
Like the third one Vastra, was down there for a couple of hours this afternoon, but didn't see one, although one did fly [ast at low level.
