Small Deragonfly or suchlike
Captured resting on a bench by Horseshoe lake Hant's
I have a feeling that this isn't a dragon fly but a nasty little.......... big sort of fly . It has the eyes of a fly rather than those of a dragonfly. I will consult my books after I have arrived home tomorrow
Yes, I had a look last night Chocky, the body is too short and hairy for a Dragonfly, but couldn't find anything else which would match.
It also has that 'nasty' look that only comes with flies
Ok - I've narrowed it down - it's a robber-fly. Not sure which one yet as they can look quite different, but there are some who look just like this.
It needs a new Latin name anyhow IMO something with 'icus' on the end will do
It's certainly not attractive, is it?
Found it.
Dysmachus trigonus, a robber fly.

Hey - I found something out!!!
Actually, due to looking up other stuff I knew that I had seen something similar so persevered. I'm learning lots by being on this site both myself and from others!
I think we all are learning . I keep forgetting though.
Don't - I've a brain like a sieve!
It' my memory. It's very long term but just now and then it has short term loss.
