Not much of a gambler are You ?
Ägretthäger Great Egret Egretta alba
It is a great bird !
Here is another great bird, the Question is:What is it called ?????
Female Willow grouse (Lagopus lagopus lagopus, or Dalripa or Moorschneehuhn) ????
Now I thought it looked like a Ptarmigan - Lagopus mutus (or 'muta') - from up north near 'home', Carin ...but I can't see any red on its head...
(Just checked - your Willow Grouse is a close relative, so, if it has no red on its head, that's probably right!Do you have them in Germany?)
The bird in Dig Deep's picture does have a red "eyeliner" though. I am not at all sure and only guess that the picture shows a Willow grouse in her summer/autumn plumage. Never seen one, though we do have them in Germany.
I'll go with Catherine, Ptarmigan - Lagopus muta.![]()
I'm inclined to go with Catherine as it has a little red Eye stripe that the Willow grouse doesn't appear to![]()
Again we have a finder
Fjällripa Rock Ptarmigan Lagopus muta
Well done Catherine![]()
Here is what I hope is a "weekender"
Just to make it easier for You I present a B/W picture in a modest format.
I´ll see if I can upload a better picture later on, if You don´t can´t spot it.
Well it looks like a Warbler of some sort, perhaps a Whitethroat - Sylvia communis?
Warbler it is
but no for the rest![]()
Need to see to colouring and the leg colour really
Hard to findbut here are two for You .
Buff-bellied Warbler - Phyllolais pulchella
Sorry but No .![]()
Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca
No, not really but close. This bird is really rar in Sweden but still we usually see a few of them every year. Think it is a little bit cold up here![]()
Willow warbler - Phylloscopus trochilus trochilus
Or
Willow warbler - Phylloscopus trochilus acredula
I think the one on the left is an Asian Desert Warbler (Sylvia nana)
- at least that's the only warbler I could find which had a yellow eye like that!![]()
[Is the other one the same species? It looks more like a Whitethroat (Sylvia communis)!......]
I think you're spot on there Catherine, looking at the eye and the plant it's perched on, perhaps a desert succulent.![]()
You're probably right re. the plant, Rolf!![]()
I thought it looked like one of these succulents you find on the salt marshes - so much do I know about plants!![]()
Well done I must say.
Ökensångare Desert Warbler Sylvia nana![]()
So, a special breed![]()
Looks like a Pomarine Skua - Stercorarius pomarinus.![]()
Great Skua, Stercorarius skua
Yes Rolf it is a Bredstjärtad labb Pomarine Skua Stercorarius pomarinus
![]()
This will be the last bird for this Year, I will have too much going on before Christmas so I will be short of time.
Hope it will be a hard nut for You.
I will pop in as usual and say Hello![]()
Is it a
Dusky Warbler - Phylloscopus fuscatus ?
Looks like a Wheatear Oenanthe oenanthe, but there are several different types.![]()
OK, will research further.![]()
Red-breasted Wheatear, Oenanthe bottae
also known as
Botta's Wheatear (Oenanthe bottae)
Sorry Chocky, I must say No.![]()
Party on dudes![]()
OK, how about Pied Wheatear - Oenanthe pleschanka?
Nice try Rolf
Getting closer but still not there yet![]()
Isabelline Wheatear, Oenanthe isabellina
Here is a re-run. Nice picture so it is well worth a re-run![]()
Tawny Eagle - Aquila rapax
