A good day at the charity shop!

Most charity shops now are trying hard to be a normal shop and just don't have the really interesting stuff anymore. BUT there is a great one in Whitley Wood (for autism) that is quite big and has all-sorts (including a small bit of furniture). Apparently they own the building which is why they can afford to carry on. It's extremely messy (although the new manager is trying to tidy it up), and you could spend hours looking through it, but its great fun.

Anyway, what I found today:

6 records for my boyfriend, 4 for me
4 really old funny looking little dolls (the sort you would buy as holiday pressies -
and 2 are in scottish outfits), that I will use in some photos
a sad looking soft bear that I will use in some photos
3 books
a bright winter scarf
a black suede designer jacket (almost looks new - would have cost a fortune - I
have a 1980s silk blouse from when she still designed clothes and it cost me
£70 then!)

.. and all for ten pounds (he only wanted 9, but I left the change). But more than that - it's just so interesting rifling through everything... and there's a little community there so people stop and chat too.

Whereabouts in Whitley Louise?

It's on Whitley Street - the roundabout end. There's a 'Help the aged' the other end but it's not very good. The one I went to is more like a junk shop - but bursting at the seams.

I didn't realise at the time that the jacket I bought was such a good one, and was expecting top pay more even before that, so I think that I may 'make a donation' the next time I go - I feel a little guilty, after all it IS for charity

Mind you, if they sold things not quite so cheaply, they would make more for the charity.

also maybe people buy more ofton if its cheeper -- theres one in wokingham like that, 5 books 2 quid, we normally donate a quid or two more... also stock levels and type of stock dictates -- think its oxfam in wokingham you wont find anything cheep books 2 quid ect, some new things too they go for the best of the best... i shall be stalking this charity shop, as we love them...

If it's too cheap, all that happens is that people buy it and put it on ebay.

we love this place, were now bankcrupt from all the brill things... dogs running round garden with rugby ball, poppys charging round with giant teddy... lous got her comp on the new computer table and going round taking pics to fill the photo album!!
