    Default First airplane carrier

Boy, looks like a piece of cake

Eugene Ely takes his Curtiss pusher airplane off
the deck of USS Birmingham on 14
    November 1910.

It was the first airplane takeoff from a warship.

On 18 January 1911, Eugene Ely lands with the same
plane on USS Pennsylvania, making this first
landing on a warship in history and a historical
    event.
Notice his "life vest" (bicycle inner tubes!)

The certainly had some guts in those days, love the way he's wearing a suit under his flying jacket.

Olympus Evolt E520, and borrowed lenses and flash. Fuji Finepix S7000 for Macro A chair :)

It looks more like it's falling rather than taking off... resembles some of those "Red Bull flying comp" things.
They were so fragile, the pilots really were very brave... but well-dressed brave
