I'd been listening to them feeding on the ground apples and squabbling for most of the afternoon, so when a couple of Fieldfares were pecking at the remaining apples in a couple of trees just within camera range, popped off a couple of snaps.

    How lovely!

Have put several half apples on the grass, but only Blackbirds and Starlings have come to eat them.

One Christmas present was a new crab apple tree though, so maybe next year...?

Thanks all, yes, seems that the main diners are thrushes of different sorts, including Robins, but also the Blue and Great Tits are having the odd peck.

Was up a ladder in the willow tree attempting to get a better Fieldfare photo (which was a failure) and across the other side of the orchard appeared a female Hen Harrier, too far for a good shot though.

Wonderful! I think it is fantastic that you saw the bird, brilliant that you identified it - and amazing that you managed such a good photo to prove both!
